Description | The Las Vegas (NM) Gazette, March 31, 1877: "Base Ball has again been revived and the boys of this plaza have reorganized their club." This implies the game was played here in prior years. Same, May 3, 1881, reports on a game between two picked nines of the town. Three of the players have played professionally, including captain John T. O'Connor of the Topeka nine. Page B. Otero, presumably of the prominent NM Otero family, was one of the players. Same, May 6, 1881, calls the team organized by Captain O'Connor the "Optic" club, after the Optic Saloon that sponsored the club. They are to play the Las Vegas College nine on May 31st. |
