"A young man named Geo. Goble, residing near Wilkesbarre [sic.] Pa. while playing ball a few days since, accidentally received a severe blow from a ball club, from the effects of which he died in twenty-four hours after."

Query

Bat referred to as a "ball club"; other sources from that time refer to it as a bat. Also, being killed by a bat was, it seems, not a rarity at that time.
