Description

No score reported.

(Porter’s Spirit of the Times: A large number of persons of both sexes assembled … to witness the ‘Ball-play’ of the Veterans of 1812.  Twenty of the Veterans, led by Col. Disbrow, marched to the field to the sound of martial music.  Sides were soon chosen, and the play was carried on with a spirit and activity quite remarkable.  The hardy Veterans, some of them over eighty years of age, and none under sixty five, seemed to be inspired with renewed energy by the memory of youthfully days and the sports of boyhood, and displayed a degree of skill and activity in the noble game of Base Ball that showed they had once been superior players.  Several good runs were made, and their performance was highly gratifying to the numerous company assembled.”)
