| Description | JUVENILE PIC-NIC—Wednesday was a gay day for a very large party of youngsters, of both sexes, who compose the St. John’s Church Sabbath school. They assembled to the number of about 100, at the School Room, at 10, and the Rev. Mr. Robb commenced the business of the day with prayer. A psalm was then sung, and the young folks marched forth in procession, with appropriate banners, and under the guidance of their teachers, to the Grove. Here they lunched, and amused themselves swinging, playing ball, and with other juvenile pastimes, until 3; when dinner was spread, and dispatched with appetites sharpened by air and exercise. The sports were then resumed, and kept up till 6, when they returned in procession to the School House, where “Tea and Coffee” were served after which Mr. Robb addressed them briefly, and singing and prayer closed the day’s proceedings. These gatherings do much good; they promote emulation in well doing and harmony, and united action, and one flock thus trained up in the way they should go, furnishes abundant resources upon which to draw for training those that are to come after.—Chronicle. |
