Description

The first confirmed public exhibition of a game of baseball in Charleston took place here on Saturday, May 19th, 1866. A few days later, the men who fielded that first game, led by A. W. Wardell and J. W. Denny, organized the city’s first team, the Palmetto Base Ball Club.
