Text | [Cincinnati vs. Union of Lansingburgh 6/7/1869] The contest from this point was chiefly interesting from the heavy batting on both sides, and the constant calling of balls and giving of bases by the umpire, who seemed disposed to play the game himself, instead of allowing the players that privilege. Thirteen times on the Union side the players were given their first base, and four times on the Cincinnati side, and this, taken in connection with the heavy batting, ran up the score to larger figures than we are accustomed to seeing in championship matches. |
