Text	The return game between nines selected from New York and Brooklyn clubs came off on Tuesday, May 12. ... Flanly, of the Mutuals, was on the ground, but refused to play, saying that his name had been used without his authority. He had other reasons beside. An unpleasant rumor had been in circulation for a few days previous to the match that the New York Nine were going to lose this game in order to get on a third one.
