Text	Welch played a shrewd trick in one of the Mets' games. Nelson and O'Brien were on second and first when Orr drove a fearfully high ball to right centre. Welch struck out for the place it was apparently going to light and put out hi hands as if he were getting right under it, but the ball was really far out of his reach and struck the fence, bounding back to him. The trick, however, fooled Nelson, who stayed at second and could only get to third when he saw his mistake. The big hit, therefore, availed Orr only one base.
