Text	The umpire on the occasion was not up to Ferguson’s mark. There were several balls entirely out of the fair reach of the batsman, which he allowed to go by uncalled, in direct violation of the written rule. No umpire has a right to go back of the rules, no matter what opinion he may have of their correctness. We content that every ball out of the reach of the batsman should be called, whenever delivered. This is the law, and Ferguson did not obey it.
