Text | Robert H. Leadley, Watkins' success, is a Detroit boy, and since 1884 has been secretary of the club. He is keen in financial matters, is well posted on base ball, and best of all is well stocked with common sense. He is popular with the players, and there is little doubt that he will succeed. His first act was to make Dan Brouthers field captain in Hanlon's absence, and it proved a good move. Leadley will not occupy the players' bench. He thinks the field captain should have full charge of the men during a game, and prefers to watch the contest from the stand. |
