Text	[Athletics vs. Brandywines 8/9/1866] “Scipio,” an African brother, who was engaged to see that the players were refreshed with iced water, created a great deal of amusement over one of Dock’s fancy hits. “Scip” was disengaged when Dock made the lunge, and his wondering eye followed the ball careering through the air, and as it reach terra firma, “Scip” exclaimed, “Golly, dat ball’s lighted clar cross de creek, and killed a cow.” The remark caused a great deal of amusement, as did others from the same “pusson.
