Text | [Mutuals vs. Atlantics 8/12/1867] Two runs were given on balked balls, Peters lifting his hind foot in delivery. The rule requires that both feet be kept on the ground, it being sufficient if the toe touches the ground, but if the foot is lifted it is a balk. This balk was the result of an extra effort for speed, when the Mutuals ought to have posted Peters on the necessity of less speed and more accuracy in view of the called and passed ball, the pitcher was giving. |
