| Description | Chicago Tribune Aug. 9, 1867 reports that yesterday the Aetna beat the Atlantic 2nd nine 54 to 40. This may be a junior club. An article in the Chicago Tribune, Dec. 19, 1915 says the Aetnas, "composed of lads living west of Market St., around Erie St." , consolidated in 1868 with the Eagles, "a club of boys from the neighborhood known as "the Sands," all ages 17-19, to form a new Aetna Club. The Aetna club claimed to be "champions of the Northwest" for three years thereafter, on the basis of winning a September, 1870 tournament to crown the champion amateur club of Chicago. The club disbanded after the great Chicago fire of Oct. 1871. This article includes a photo of the 1869 team. |

Win/Loss Records As Far As We Now Know
Warning: Users should not rely on a team's won-loss record as a reflection of its "standing" among all base ball clubs. Team schedules were not balanced, and a good record against mostly weak opponents does not signify a leading club.
