Description | The Chicago Tribune, July 4, 1870, reporting on the upcoming July 4th activities: "The Odd Fellows ill hold a basket picnic at Dalton's Grove [sic], twenty miles out on the Great Eastern Railroad...Union Lodge 9, and Home Lodge 416, will play a match game of base ball." The settlement of Dolton was at this time about 20 miles outside Chicago, and had a station on the Great Eastern Railroad. Undoubtedly the game was played there. |
