The Newark Advocate, April 12, 1867: "Base Ball.--A match game of base ball between the Independent, of Newark, and the O.K. of Zanesville, came off on the vacant lots in East Newark, on Friday last..." Zanesville won 21-15.

Same, Oct. 25, 1867, mentions the Buckeye Club of Zanesville.

The Zanesville Times Recorder, June 16, 1924 (see image below) says among the early clubs were the IXL, OK and Union.
