Description

Mead, "Baseball Goes to War..." p. 139 relates the reminiscences of major league star Enos Slaughter. During World War II Slaughter was stationed on Saipan, after takeover by US troops, and recalled that army bulldozers soon constructed a "nice ball park" where the soldiers played. The same book also mentions ballplaying on Guam and Iwo Jima, after their liberation from the Japanese.
