Description

U.S. troops were stationed in Iceland in World War II and while there, played baseball. Cf. the Cleveland Plain Dealer, April 6, 1942, under the headline "Marines Tell of Iceland Service." Here Private Albert Gonda tells of "baseball, football and outdoor boxing matches when the weather permitted." See also the Portland Oregonian, May 21, 1943, where aircrews tell of playing baseball there.
