Description

"Base Ball--This active sport, which Porter's Spirit recommends to be adopted as the national ball game of America, in contradistinction to the English cricket--has been introduced into Bloomington. We played our first game last Friday, with a party of young men who had tried it two or three times before... We hope soon to chronicle the organization of one or two baseball clubs." Bloomington Pantagraph, June 17, 1857.

Same, June 20, 1857: "Base Ball--The base ball club was out last night in good force. The air was just cool enough to make violent exercise pleasant and the ground also was in fine condition."
