Description

The New York Age, Nov. 20, 1937: "George Smith, professor of English at the Royal University of Menileck, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, arrived in New York on the Queen Mary last week. ... Mr. Smith ... introduced football, basketball and baseball in Ethiopia."

It may have been introduced there earlier. The Canonsburg (PA) Daily Notes, July 24, 1922, reports that the local Presbyterians were raising funds to furnish a missionary with baseball equipment before she voyaged to Abyssinia.
