Melrose Park played as part of a "West Suburban League" that included Maywood, Austin, River Forest, Jefferson and Montclaire. See the Chicago Inter Ocean, June 15, 1895. River Forest had 162 residents in 1880, when the village was formed, and 1539 in 1900. However, River Forest existed in the 1870s, and the Chicago Tribune Aug. 20, 1876 said it had 750 residents. This may be a village of different boundaries than later on. |
