Description | The Chicago Chronicle, June 14, 1897 reports that Glenview lost to the Whys of Evanston 22-21 in Glenview yesterday. The Glenview battery was Redelings and Sickner. "Redelings" is probably one of the numerous Redelings family of the area, either Emil, Julius or Otto. The Cook County Herald, July 6, 1901 reports that the Shermerville [Northbrook] juniors defeated the Glenviews 10-8. The Chicago Examiner, Aug. 28, 1911, reports that the W. J. Moxley team beat the Glenview team 4-3 at Glenview. It gives a box score. The Glenview players are Christianson, 2b; Schoenberg, lf: Kellner, ss; Nelson, rf; Delorina, 3b; Pumphrey, cf; Hutchinson, 1b; Voelk, c; and Rugen, p. The latter is undoubtedly Edwin F. Rugen, born 1888, later Glenview Village president. The Chicago Day Book 1913 and 1914 lists many game scores for the Glenview team, including games with Highland Park and Des Plaines. The Arlington Heights Cook County Herald, June 22, 1917 reports the Shermerville baseball team defeated the Glenview team 8 to 1 Sunday. Same June 6, 1919 has Shermerville beating Glenview 6-5. And Glenview beating Niles, 10-7, on Decoration Day. The pitcher for Glenview was Ed Rugen, of the town's founding Rugen family. Glenview was founded in 1895, and incorporated in 1899. A photo of this early Glenview team is in the 1899-1974 History of Glenview. That book says where the team played. |
