The Savannah Daily News, Jan. 31, 1867 has an ad for the regular meeting of the Pioneer BBC, James Mullen, Secretary. The Savannah Daily News, Feb. 14, 1867 reports a "special meeting" of the Pioneer base ball club is expected, "Edward G. Saltzman, president." The formation of the Pioneer BBC is announced in the Boston Daily Advertiser, Feb. 25, 1867.

Saltzman was a well-known northern player who had settled in Savannah.
