Description

The Chicago Tribune, July 27, 1867, has an extensive article on the State base ball convention. Among the clubs sending delegates was the Vermillion of Danville.

The lead Danville delegate was city Attorney Joseph B. Mann.

The Danville Commercial, June 6, Aug. 1, 1867 reports on an inter-squad game of the Vermilions of Danville. The club's grounds were "directly west of the Fair Grounds." The club members are named. They had reported games in 1870. Same, Sept. 8, Oct. 20, 1870

The Champaign County Gazette, Oct. 19, 1870 reports that the Vermillions played the Haymakers in Philo and the Eagles of Champaign, losing both times, and that the Eagles are going to play them in Danville soon.

Danville, in Vermilion County, had 4,751 residents in 1870.
