Comment

The City Club was mentioned in an newspaper account from 1875 (Press and Messenger Wednesday, Jun 30, 1875 Knoxville, TN Page: 4), having been challenged by the Wild Rovers of Clinton. But they rejected the challenge on account of it being summer.

Query

Duplicate listing for the Knoxville club? Probably not, as the Knoxville Free Press, Sept. 4, 1867 mentions the Holston, Knoxville, City, Emmet and University BBCs. [ba]

Win/Loss Records As Far As We Now Know

Warning: Users should not rely on a team's won-loss record as a reflection of its "standing" among all base ball clubs. Team schedules were not balanced, and a good record against mostly weak opponents does not signify a leading club.
